Ships transport people. They are also used for moving large quantities of goods. This means of transport is slower.

Ships sail in and out of ports. There are special machines in ports for lifting containers.

Transport by water can be by the sea or by a river.

  • River navigation: ships sail by rivers and they sail in and out of fluvial ports situated on the banks of the river.
  • Transport by sea: ships sail by sea and they sail in and out of maritime ports situated on the coast.
There are passengers ships like ferries and goods ships like oil tankers.
