Water is a very important element in a landscape. It is in rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

Rivers are made of moving water.

  • Rivers start high in the mountains, or from an underground source.

  • They run through flat lands and get bigger. More water goes into them from rainfall and other rivers.

  • They flow down to the sea or into another river.

Lakes are large areas of water surrounded by land. If they are small, they are called a lagoon (in the coast), or a pool (inside).

A reservoir is an artificial or natural lake where water is stored by a dam so that it can be supplied to the houses in an area.
