The cricket is an insect of relatively great size. Crickets have got a mouth, two antennas of variable length and two well developed eyes. But mostly developed is their third pair of legs, that they use to jump.

There are many differences between the domestic cricket and the field cricket. The domestic cricket is quite small, it lives in the kitchens and pantries of the houses, and it also lives on wastes of food and on other insects and tiny animals. The field cricket is of a shiny black color, and lives in holes in the ground of where it leaves to eat and to sing.

Crickets have got a head, a an thorax and abdomen. They have wings and so they can move very quickly.

They are onnivorous and oviporous animals.

The females lay between 500 and 1000 eggs. They reproduce between spring and summer and in cold epoches they die.

In order to attract a companion, the males produce a sound by rubbing the two front wings one against the other. This squeak is heard by the females with the ears that are in the front legs. The squeaks are different in each species so that each individual can find its own specie.

In the maintenance of the ecosystem the crickets carry out positive aspects such as: they disintegrate the plants renewing the Earth's minerals and they are an important source of food for other animals, too.

They have also negative aspects because they can damage plants and in great amounts they can be destructive. And the songs of the males can disturb the nightly silence.
