Factories modify the landscape in which they are located. For example:

  • in order to connect the factory with the markets in which their products are sold it constructs roads and railways.
  • the smoke from the chimneys and the industrial waste of the factories can contaminate the air, the land and the water.
 
 Sometimes, many factories in the same place are grouped forming industrial complexes.
